Honouring our ancestors at Samhain

There are many traditions associated with Samhain (“Summers End” in ancient Gaelic), and one of my favourites is the honouring of our Ancestors.

There are many ways to honour those who came before us, especially ones with which we have memories. Create an altar, or “memory corner” with mementoes of your ancestors such as photographs, heirlooms, a map of where they lived, symbols of their homeland, a piece of jewelry…

Light a candle in their memory, and thank them for all they did for their descendants.

Take some time to ponder on your thoughts and memories, and journal your experiences and any messages you receive.

“You are the result of the love of thousands.”

Samhain starts at sundown on October 31st and is celebrated through to sundown on November 1st.
