Solstitial Full Moon in Cancer

WISDOM FROM GRANDMOTHER MOON

Such a powerful solstitial Full Moon tonight, a rare conjunction of the December solstice paired with a Full Moon. According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, this has happened just ten times at the December Solstice since 1793 and will not happen again until 2094. Not sure I’ll be around then so I plan to embrace it fully this year!

The Solstice arrived at December 21 at 22:23 UTC, a time of celebration in both the Northern Hemisphere (MidWinter, Yule, Alban Arthan, Winter Solstice) and Southern Hemisphere (MidSummer, Litha, Alban Hefin, Summer Solstice).

The Full Moon in Cancer arrives December 22 at 17:48 UTC, just a few hours after the Solstice, and will be shining brightly on Solstice Night. Time to celebrate even more!

At this Full Moon, Seanmháthair Gealach (Grandmother Moon in Irish Gaelic) is at home: Cancer is the constellation she rules with its qualities of emotions, intuition and motherhood/birthing.

On this Solstitial Full Moon, I call on An Cailleach (the Hag of Winter) and the Deer Mother for support and guidance.
