Passionate Transformation with the New Moon in Taurus

Wisdom from Seanmháthair Gealach (Grandmother Moon)
New Moon in Taurus arrived at 5:16 AM Pacific Time
Day 1 of the lunar journey
Our Theme for this month: Passionate Transformation. Love Your Self
New Moon Wisdom: first, pause & reflect

IMG_0230

We are in that wonderful time of new beginnings… a New Moon today and Beltaine (the first fire festival of Summer) next week. And if you are in the Southern Hemisphere, the Wheel of the Year is turning towards Samhain, which is actually the start of the new Celtic year (just as the Celtic day starts at sunset). So very powerful!

But not every new journey starts easily. Sometimes we are still letting go of baggage from our previous journey(s), and at other times our Inner Garden may not be quite ready for the new growth. We may have to do a little weeding or fertilizing. We even may be looking at other gardens and thinking “yes, it’s greener / more beautiful over there!”

So, first, take some time to pause and reflect during this deep dark powerful New Moon before you start your new journey when LaLuna starts to glimmer in that sliver of a Waxing Crescent in a day or two.

And as you do, remember this: each and every flower must crack out of its seed, then grow through the dirt before it can bloom and face the Sun. The darkness will soon pass as you move into the light.

Each flower is worthy of the sunshine.

Each flower has its own unique beauty and purpose.

“A flower does not think of competing to the flower next to it. It just blooms.”
– Zen Shin

Open up and bloom your own way.

There’s plenty of sunshine for us all.

SOUL WORK FOR THE NEW MOON
This week between the New Moon and Beltaine is so powerful and ultimately passionately transformative. Reach deep into your Wise Inner Self — the Inner Garden of your soul — and create big bold audacious goals for this month and for the coming months. . . not short-term goals but rather something that is transformative for YOU.

Beltaine (aka Beltane aka Bealtaine) comes from the Irish Gaelic words for “Mouth of Fire”, and marks the beginning of “the merry month of May”. This fire festival is associated with love, fertility, sensuality, and relationships.

But let’s not forget the most important relationship we all have, and that is the relationship with our Self. Many of us neglect the Self as we care for others, as we put others first, as we look after our families.

As you create your goals for the new Moon and for Beltaine (or Samhain), be sure to embrace that fire energy and create goals for nurturing and passionately transforming your Self… your health, your vitality, your mind, your personal development, your abundance.

In your New Moon reflections, tarot/oracle readings or shamanic journeys, be mindful of this. Keep this theme in your awareness as the wisdom you need to transform and move forward reveals itself and opens up the possibilities for your transformative goals.

SOUL QUESTIONS
Some Soul Questions to consider (but definitely create your own as well) in your New Moon reflections and work:

🌸 How healthy is my Inner Garden? Does it need a little fertilizer? Are there weeds to be pruned or pulled, then composted?

🌼 What blossoms (goals) can transform my Garden to a place of beauty, tranquility, and abundance?

🌺 How will I maintain my Garden?

🌹 How will having this Inner Garden transform my life and positively affect those I love?

🌷 How can I honour myself and manifest love for myself even more?

New Moon Blessings !

Rituals for the Pisces New Moon

Wisdom from Seanmháthair Gealach (Grandmother Moon)
Day 1, 🌚🌑 Dark Moon / New Moon in Pisces AND a Solar Eclipse
Sunday, February 26 at 6:58 AM Pacific Time (14:58 UTC)
🌙
We have another powerful start to the lunar month, with a Solar Eclipse (visible in parts of South America and Africa). An auspicious time for fresh starts!

For me, the New Moon energy doesn’t really begin until we see that first glimmer of light of the Waxing Crescent in two to three days. For now, we are in the Dark Moon, completing the last journey, embracing Grandmother Moon’s deep and powerful Yin energy, and strongly connected to our own wisdom and intuition. We are guided by The Crone, known by many names: Hecate, An Cailleach, Cerridwen, Hella, Lilith, Baba Yaga, Kali, and others.

Take this time to reflect, and refocus your visions and dreams for the next Journey. When we work with our Crone energies, we can face our fears squarely and courageously and can learn from them. We can accept our strengths, and embrace the fierce wildness within.

And like the Phoenix, this phase is not just an ending, a completion, it is a beginning. . .  a rebirth of light from the darkness. With the new light of La Luna’s crescent, our journey begins again. We start a new adventure. But unlike The Fool’s Journey, starting with a clean slate, we carry forward with the wisdom from our recent explorations. We still have endless possibilities but perhaps more clarity as we focus our intentions and incorporate the wisdom from our Dark Moon reflections.

This moon also embraces the coming Equinox (Monday, March 20, 2017 at 10:29 UTC) which for some signifies the official start of Spring (in the Northern Hemisphere) and Autumn (in the Southern Hemisphere). . . a time of shifting energies, towards balance and equilibrium, and an opportunity to review and refocus.

SOUL RITUALS FOR THE NEW MOON

Do you have rituals or practices for the New Moon? If not, consider some of these:

🌙  Do a New Moon tarot or oracle reading. At each new lunar phase — First Quarter, Full Moon, Third Quarter, etc — check in with the reading and draw additional cards for further illumination as you work through the month.

🌙  Start a lunar chart or Moon Wheel (so many great tools out there) to track your energy and emotions throughout the month to see how the phases manifest in your life: sleep patterns, emotions, flow days and, of course, the lunar phases (new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, etc)

🌙  Set up a new altar, or add new elements for Spring (Northern Hemisphere) or Fall (Southern Hemisphere)

🌙  Start a new herbal tincture, decoction or glycerite. I do this every new moon! This month, I’m starting a cooling tincture for the liver (I am full of Fire and over-stimulated at the moment, so need to dampen it) using a recipe from Rosemary Gladstar (one part burdock root, one part dandelion root and 1/4 part cinnamon bark). I’m preparing it two ways: one batch with ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) and one with alcohol (vodka).

🌙  Create a (re)Vision Board for the coming new season. This can help you get back on track with any New Year’s Resolutions you may have created. Or maybe something new may be revealed! In the Northern Hemisphere, the sap is starting to rise. . .  definitely an inspiration for new things and new visions. In the Southern Hemisphere, Mama Earth is starting to reap the abundance of Summer. .  time to reflect on your own harvest and start to prepare for the coming Autumn and Winter. This exercise can be done with magazines, or with various collage/photo apps on your laptop, tablet or smart phone. This exercise can be a great bonding experience, too, if done in a group.

Explore the Women’s Wisdom Wheel Spread with us on November 29th

Join Jackie Ladouceur and Della Ratcliffe on the Tuesday, November 29th at 10 AM Pacific Time (yes, it’s the New Moon!) for an on-line exploration of the Women’s Wisdom Wheel, a new spread using your favourite oracle or tarot cards.

Each month, Grandmother Moon starts a new journey, giving us an opportunity for new beginnings and for reflecting on the previous month. And, as we move into Winter in the Northern Hemisphere, this is also a time for even deeper reflection and for planning our next year.

As Mother Earth starts her draw her energy downward, deep into the ground, we can do the same…. looking back at the past year and what we learned, what we have gratitude for… and what we want for the next year.

The Women’s Wisdom Wheel is a tool to help us do that, using our favourite oracle or tarot deck, and can be used at any time of the year, but can be most powerful at the New Moon and the New Year (in the Celtic Wheel of the Year that was earlier this month, at Samhain).

In this Introduction / Q&A, Jackie and Della will:
🌙 introduce you to the Women’s Wisdom Wheel spread
🌙 demonstrate a live reading (and ask for YOUR interpretations)
🌙 share some Soul Questions you can use for each direction on the Wheel
🌙 give you a special preview of Jackie’s beautifully designed Oracle of Horse Wisdom
🌙 answer YOUR questions about the Wheel and its concepts… and your cards!

PREPARATION
🌙 We will be doing a live demo of the Women’s Wisdom Wheel Spread during this event, so open up YOUR favourite Oracle or Tarot deck and join in…. See what wisdom shows up for you!
🌙 You may also want to have a journal or other device to take notes.

Journey to your River of Life

img_7079

We are now firmly into the waxing crescent energy of the new lunar month. Your Yin intuitive New Moon energy is still powerful but starting to wane, and you are likely feeling an increasing Yang energy as we move towards the Full Moon.

We are also now fully flowing with Autumn energies, associated with the element of Water. And even though we are in Libra with its balance of head and heart, change — with its flow and strong emotions — may feel like a constant at this strong turning point in the year.

This brings us to our word for the month. Currents… the currents in the River of your life in all their forms… currents of energy, currents of emotion, back currents, rapids, stagnant pools, deep stirrings, surface ripples, floating with or fighting the current.

As this month progresses, bring your awareness to the currents in your life and take some time now to journey or meditate on the River of Your Life…. taking note of its appearance and course:

🌙 What does the River of your Life look like? Is it deep? Shallow? Wide? Narrow? Calm? Turbulent? Does it have steep banks or perhaps a sandy beach?

🌙 What does the landscape around your River look like? Forest? Arid lands? Prairies? Mountains?

🌙 What is the course of your River? Does it flow across a continent… or perhaps smaller, starting from a spring and flowing into a nearby lake or sea?

🌙 If you have journeyed to your River before, does it appear differently now? If so, how?

And now consider these Soul Questions:

🌙 What does your River tell you about your current (!) situation?

🌙 What is now coming to the surface of your River that calls for your awareness?

🌙 What happens when you stay in flow with your River?

🌙  Where the dams in your River?

🌙 What happens when you stay in flow with your River?

It’s now time to take those New Moon musings and River meditations and commit to action for this month’s lunar journey.

Remember that you don’t have to change the world this month, or commit to climbing Everest. You can commit to something meaningful that might be a small step, such as choosing to connect with Nature every day… to exercise more… to add more fresh foods into your diet… to reconnect with a friend you haven’t seen in a while… to complete a project you’ve put off… to read a book.

Whatever you do, let the currents of your River flow freely and strongly in your life.

Do I change like a river, widening and deepening, eddying back on myself sometimes, bursting my banks sometimes when there’s too much water, too much life in me, and sometimes dried up from lack of rain? Will the I that is me grow and widen and deepen? Or will I stagnate and become an arid riverbed? Will I allow people to dam me up and confine me to wall so that I flow only where they want? Will I allow them to turn me into a canal to use for they own purposes? Or will I make sure I flow freely, coursing my way through the land and ploughing a valley of my own?

Using your Inner Cauldron at the Balsamic Moon

img_6934-2

The New Moon arrives on Friday, September 30 at 5:13 PM Pacific Time (Saturday, October 1 at 00:13 UTC), and Grandmother Moon will begin her monthly journey once again.

This will be the second New Moon in the calendar month for many of us (depending on our time zone). This is known as a Black Moon, similar to the Blue Moon, which has two Full Moons in a calendar month. For some, the Black Moons are significant for ritual and spellcraft, as it is believed the outcome of work done will be even stronger on the Black Moon. And perhaps even the energy of this Balsamic Moon will be stronger!

The New Moon is the dawn of a new adventure, a new project, a new beginning. You may have heard the expression “It is always darkest just before dawn”. And so it is with the Moon’s journey in this final phase of the Waning Crescent, also known as the Balsamic Moon (balsam refers to anything that heals, soothes, or restores). The light of the Moon is barely visible… a sliver of light arising before dawn and setting late in the afternoon, before Father Sun.

This phase of the Moon is associated with increasing yin energy and psychic strength, and with the wisdom of the Crone (aka The Wise Woman) and the Sorceress phases of a woman’s life, and with the Goddesses Cerridwen (Keeper of the Cauldron) and Hecate (a powerful Triple Goddess from ancient times).

These energies are deep, introspective, wise and intense. During the Balsamic Moon, we connect to our inner fire, our inner cauldron, and are ready for the alchemy of transformation. These Goddess energies can support us in the “work” of the waning phase of the Moon (that time from the Full moon to the New Moon): a time of completion, of contemplation, and release.

The shift to the Balsamic Moon in the three days before the New Moon is our Call To Action to complete that process… one last opportunity to delve deep inside and connect with our inner light.

The work we do in the final phase of this moon prepares us for the beginning of the next lunar cycle…. preparing the soil of our Soul’s Garden for the planting of new seeds, and for asking the Soul Questions that will help us complete and move forward.

Soul Questions for the Balsamic Moon

Last month I offered some Soul Questions for this phase of the moon, and those may be the ones that resonate with you this month.

If not, create your own questions based on your intentions for this month’s journey or consider these new Soul Questions for your meditations under this month’s Balsamic Moon:

  • What practices and beliefs have I clung to, yet which no longer serve who I am now?
  • Who have I become? What part of my true Self have I (re)claimed?
  • Who am I no longer?
  • Am I ready to release with gratitude the “old me” that served me well, but now needs to be put aside?
  • What are the new practices and beliefs that resonate with my true and authentic self?
  • What can I do in the next lunar journey, starting from this new sense of my Self?

Practices and Rituals

The Balsamic Moon is a great time to meditate, journal and to do a release ritual (so many posted in this blog).  I also like to work with my oracle and tarot cards for even more insight, either working with the Medicine Wheel spread I create at the start of each month or with a new spread for the specific phase of the moon.

Have you tried the spread created by Bree of Nyms Divination for our recent Fall Equinox Tarot Hop: The Cerridwen Cauldron Spread and Meditation?  It is so powerful and perfect for this phase of the moon!

Click here to read Bree’s article (and listen to wonderful Cerridwen meditation she created!) and to download the Cerridwen’s Cauldron Tarot Spread.

Set your intentions with the Waxing Crescent Moon

image

In our Journey with the Moon each month, the time of the New Moon is the rich fertile ground where the seeds of our ideas and intentions for the month are nurtured in our Inner Self.

Today we can see the first glimmer of light on the Moon, and have reached the Waxing Crescent phase. Time to set your intentions for the month, to let them take root in your awareness.

On the New Moon, I shared with you the theme for this month’s lunar journey: balance and harmony. Today I will finalize my personal intentions around that theme.

And today I will also do my monthly Medicine Wheel oracle/tarot card spread… I always wait until the end of the New Moon phase, when this first glimmer of Moonlight arrives, to do this spread. I will share it with you later this morning.

What will you focus on this month? What seeds  were planted that will grow throughout this journey?

New Moon in Virgo: Channel your Inner Goddess!

IMG_6654

My Moon Bowl is empty… set for the darkness of today’s New Moon

Each New Moon is a powerful opportunity to start again, to embrace the strong lunar Yin energies to connect with our deep Inner Wisdom and intuition.

And this New Moon in Virgo, which arrived early this morning at 2:03 AM Pacific Time, has a very special added element — a solar eclipse — giving us an even more powerful opportunity to (re)align with our highest and best intentions and gain tremendous insight into our path…and our next steps on that journey. This month you will be supercharged with clarity and focus… and possibly overcharged with details, so be prepared!

We are also approaching that time of year when the Earth itself is in balance… use the Equinox energy to gently realign the balance in your heart and soul this month, to bring harmony into your world and into your relationships. So these are my theme words for this month: balance and harmony.

Virgo is associated with the Goddess, the Priestess, your Divine Feminine… she is wise, she is contemplative, she is earthy, she sees the sacred in the profane and the mundane, she communicates between the worlds. Tap into your Inner Goddess wisdom as you plan your lunar journey and goals this month.

🌙

Some New Moon activities and rituals to consider before we move into the Waxing Crescent on Saturday:

🌚 Do a Medicine Wheel oracle / tarot card reading for the month

🌚 Set up a new altar celebrating the Goddess

🌚 Meditate with a crystal on your goals for this month

🌚 Take a New Moon shamanic journey to connect with your guides

🌚 Celebrate in Circle with others — sing, dance, share

Part of my New Moon altar is pictured above, with my Moon Bowl set for Day 1 of Grandmother Moon’s journey.

🌙 New Moon Blessings 🌙
