Altar for my Water Release Ritual

Tomorrow we enter a new cycle with Grandmother Moon… new beginnings, new energy, new goals, a new journey.

And this is the last New Moon before the Solstice on Wednesday, June 21 at 04:24 UTC (Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 9:24 pm PDT here in Vancouver). The Solstice is the medicine of Father Sun, used by many to mark the “official” first day of the seasons of Summer or Winter. Our ancestors celebrated this day in the Northern Hemisphere as Summer Solstice, Litha, MidSummer and/or Longest Day and in the Southern Hemisphere as Winter Solstice, Yule, MidWinter and/or Longest Night.

Before the dawn of New Moon, I spend a day reflecting and releasing, and often use different elements in my release Rituals… Earth, Fire, Water, Air.

So today is an ideal time to sit with the Medicine Wheel reading you created at the beginning of the New Moon, to which you added new cards — at the First Quarter, the Full Moon, the Third Quarter and now the Dark Moon — to those already drawn.

SOUL WORK
Spend some time reflecting on the cards you drew throughout this month’s journey and the messages/wisdom they brought you on this month’s theme of “passionate transformation” (or whatever theme YOU set for yourself). What new wisdom can you integrate into your Wise Inner Self? What did you learn? What is now complete? What is yet unfinished? And what are you now ready to release?

Today I feel the need for the gentle, intuitive emotional energy of Water and the grounding energy of Mama Earth. Consider this Release Ritual with Water, which can be done throughout the day or all at once, at sunset:

TO BEGIN

  • Call on your guides and allies for their wisdom, guidance, and support in this ritual
  • Fill a small bowl with water
  • Place a favourite healing crystal into the water (make sure it is a crystal that is safe in water) or add a teaspoon of sea salt
    • You can also add other elements. . . a favourite essential oil, herb or botanical element (leaf, flower, etc). Today, I added a drop of Lourdes Holy Water, a gift from my Grandmother, to represent my Ancestors.

Method 1: Throughout the Day

  • Throughout the day, bring your awareness to any negative energy, self-limiting limiting beliefs, patterns of behaviour that no longer serve you.
  • For each one you identify and are ready to let go, energetically send it to the water bowl for release, saying a release affirmation you create or something like: “This _________ no longer serves me. I release it to the healing waters of Mother Earth.”
  • When you feel you have released everything you can, move to the COMPLETION part of the Ritual.

Method 2: All at Once

  •  Sit and meditate at the water bowl, and once again reflect on your Medicine Wheel reading for the month… or your journey since the new moon on April 26th. As in Method 1, also bring your awareness to any negative energy, self-limiting limiting beliefs, patterns of behaviour that no longer serve you. What are you now ready to release after integrating the wisdom of your Soul Work?
  • For each one you identify, release energetically to the bowl OR write the keywords onto a small piece of paper and drop into the water bowl for release. As you watch the words blur and dissolve into the water, say a release statement you have created or something such as “This _________ no longer serves me. I release it to the healing waters of Mother Earth.”
  • When you feel you have released everything you can, move to the COMPLETION part of the Ritual.

COMPLETION
When you have completed your release(s), empty the bowl — if possible outdoors, into Mama Earth, but it can also be released to water (sink, pond, river…) — while repeating your release statement, one you craft yourself or something like this: “I free my Self of all things which no longer serve me and I send them to Mother Earth for grounding and release.”

Thank your guides and allies for their support and wisdom.

NOTES:
If you choose to empty the bowl into a sink or a fresh water source, modify your statement accordingly, for example “I free my Self of all things which no longer serve me and I send them to be cleansed and released in the healing waters of Mother Earth”.

Some folks also choose to release and bury the crystal(s) used in the Ritual, but I simply thank the crystal and then cleanse it energetically.

Passionate Transformation with the New Moon in Taurus

Wisdom from Seanmháthair Gealach (Grandmother Moon)
New Moon in Taurus arrived at 5:16 AM Pacific Time
Day 1 of the lunar journey
Our Theme for this month: Passionate Transformation. Love Your Self
New Moon Wisdom: first, pause & reflect

IMG_0230

We are in that wonderful time of new beginnings… a New Moon today and Beltaine (the first fire festival of Summer) next week. And if you are in the Southern Hemisphere, the Wheel of the Year is turning towards Samhain, which is actually the start of the new Celtic year (just as the Celtic day starts at sunset). So very powerful!

But not every new journey starts easily. Sometimes we are still letting go of baggage from our previous journey(s), and at other times our Inner Garden may not be quite ready for the new growth. We may have to do a little weeding or fertilizing. We even may be looking at other gardens and thinking “yes, it’s greener / more beautiful over there!”

So, first, take some time to pause and reflect during this deep dark powerful New Moon before you start your new journey when LaLuna starts to glimmer in that sliver of a Waxing Crescent in a day or two.

And as you do, remember this: each and every flower must crack out of its seed, then grow through the dirt before it can bloom and face the Sun. The darkness will soon pass as you move into the light.

Each flower is worthy of the sunshine.

Each flower has its own unique beauty and purpose.

“A flower does not think of competing to the flower next to it. It just blooms.”
– Zen Shin

Open up and bloom your own way.

There’s plenty of sunshine for us all.

SOUL WORK FOR THE NEW MOON
This week between the New Moon and Beltaine is so powerful and ultimately passionately transformative. Reach deep into your Wise Inner Self — the Inner Garden of your soul — and create big bold audacious goals for this month and for the coming months. . . not short-term goals but rather something that is transformative for YOU.

Beltaine (aka Beltane aka Bealtaine) comes from the Irish Gaelic words for “Mouth of Fire”, and marks the beginning of “the merry month of May”. This fire festival is associated with love, fertility, sensuality, and relationships.

But let’s not forget the most important relationship we all have, and that is the relationship with our Self. Many of us neglect the Self as we care for others, as we put others first, as we look after our families.

As you create your goals for the new Moon and for Beltaine (or Samhain), be sure to embrace that fire energy and create goals for nurturing and passionately transforming your Self… your health, your vitality, your mind, your personal development, your abundance.

In your New Moon reflections, tarot/oracle readings or shamanic journeys, be mindful of this. Keep this theme in your awareness as the wisdom you need to transform and move forward reveals itself and opens up the possibilities for your transformative goals.

SOUL QUESTIONS
Some Soul Questions to consider (but definitely create your own as well) in your New Moon reflections and work:

🌸 How healthy is my Inner Garden? Does it need a little fertilizer? Are there weeds to be pruned or pulled, then composted?

🌼 What blossoms (goals) can transform my Garden to a place of beauty, tranquility, and abundance?

🌺 How will I maintain my Garden?

🌹 How will having this Inner Garden transform my life and positively affect those I love?

🌷 How can I honour myself and manifest love for myself even more?

New Moon Blessings !

Connect with Mama Earth in April’s Third Quarter Moon

Wisdom from Seanmháthair Gealach (Grandmother Moon)
Third Quarter Moon, In Capricorn
Arrives around 2:56 AM Pacific Time / 10:56 UTC on April 19th
Day 24 of the lunar journey
Wisdom: Connect with your Intuition and with Mama Earth

Screen Shot 2017-04-18 at 5.13.37 PM

“Phases of The Moon, Third Quarter”, a painting by Wayne Purse

When I verify the arrival times for the various lunar phases – New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon and Third Quarter – the times across all information sites are usually relatively consistent. But today, I read so many variations for the arrival of the Third Quarter: 2:56 AM, 2:57 AM, 2:58 AM, 2:59 AM, 3:00 AM, 3:05 AM Pacific Time. Minor differences, but very curious indeed!  And the fact that all that variation is throwing me for a loop means I need the grounding influence of the Capricorn Moon!

Mooning Around
Not being an astronomer, I don’t know why there are so many variations…. maybe it’s all this retrograde planetary activity! Suffice it to say, the Third Quarter will arrive somewhere between 2:56 AM and 3:05 AM Pacific Time tonight!

But what is the Last Quarter and how is it defined astronomically? Well, by a very precise measurement: “when the excess of the apparent ecliptic (celestial) longitude of the Moon over that of the Sun is 270 degrees”. These exact words were found in numerous sources.

One-half of the visible surface of LaLuna is brightly lit (which side varies depending on your location in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere), and the illuminated portion slowly decreases each day until we reach next week’s Dark Moon.

Moon Wisdom
At this point, LaLuna’s journey around the Earth is roughly three-quarters complete, as is our journey with her. This is the Autumn of the lunar cycle, where our intuition is deepening more and more each day, where we clearly see our accomplishments (and Self) that were illuminated by the Full Moon.

What we planned at the beginning of this lunar cycle is now ready to be reaped and harvested. Like LaLuna, we too are returning to our time of rest, of consolidation, of reflection. It’s okay to slow down, so that we may focus on what we’ve learned, complete what we’ve started and release anything that will not support us in the next cycle.

You may feel tension during this final quarter (the quarter moons with their half-dark and half-light illumination may feel like crisis points) but use that energy to focus on completion and letting go, rather than jumping into new things. Let those wait for next week’s New Moon. Call on the wisdom of the Matriarch goddess(es) such as Mab, Demeter, Yemaya, Hera and others. The Matriarch knows her Self, her gifts, her wisdom… and you will too.

SOUL WORK FOR THE THIRD QUARTER

Any time during the Waning Moon, from the Full Moon to the Dark Moon, is traditionally a time for releasing. As the Moon’s energy diminishes, releasing becomes a more natural action. If you use spellcraft, it can also be a time for banishing negative things (except during a Void-of-Course period).

But do remember that “nature abhors a vacuum”: when you release something negative, be sure to consider what positive energy you can bring in to fill that void. Balance, always… exhale, inhale… release, receive. It can be as simple as a good wish, an affirmation, a kind deed, or an act of gratitude.

SOUL QUESTIONS
This month we are working with the theme of Rejuvenation, or Renewal. Take some time to look back at this month’s journey and develop your own Soul Questions, or use these:

  • What has begun again?
  • How has renewal or rejuvenation manifested in your life this month?
  • And how will it continue to manifest?

Find the answers in meditation, contemplation, a journey, or from an oracle or tarot reading. And then release what isn’t working and next month continue to build from what IS working.

Capricorn is associated with the Earth Element and, with Earth Day coming on April 22nd, this is a perfect time to make a strong(er) connection with Mama Earth and to use Earth in your release rituals (burying a release bundle, for instance, rather than placing it in a cauldron to release with Fire).

How can you connect with Mama Earth during the Waning Moon time?

  • spend time in Nature or in your garden, if you have one
  • cleanse the Air in your home with a new indoor plant (or more)
  • make or purchase herbal tea, a beautiful bounty from Mama Earth that supports our health and vitality. Even better, make or purchase one that uses roots in the mix, such as dandelion, or with berries along with leaves
  • take a detoxifying bath by adding a cup or more of a mixture of salts (Epsom, Magnesium, Dead Sea, Himalayan, etc) to the tub, along with a few drops of your favourite essential oil, and soak your cares away
  • make a salt scrub and use it to exfoliate your body
  • energetically cleanse your crystals and pendulums
  • do some grounding work such as a grounding cord exercise (there are several on-line sources, such as this one)

In other words, as we said in the 60s, “mellow out” 😀

Soul Questions for the Waxing Crescent Moon

ig-moon-phases

Wisdom from Seanmháthair Gealach (Grandmother Moon)
Day 4, Waxing Crescent 🌒🌘

We can now see a crescent of light in the Waxing Moon… it’s time to move from the reflective time of the Dark Moon / New Moon and step into action, to firm up your goals for the month.

This phase of the Moon is associated with the Daughter archetype, when we are at our most natural, connected to our Inner Wisdom, when anything is possible. Why? In part, because we are unencumbered by learned beliefs (both empowering and disempowering)… You might say “we don’t know what we don’t know”. And that can be very powerful! In this phase, we are supported by the goddess energies of Brighid, Juno, Kore / Persephone.

This is a significant month, with an Equinox in the latter part of the month. And, in some countries (US, UK, Australia), March is Women’s History Month. In Canada, we celebrate it in October. In our Wise Woman Bean Gealach Circle, we celebrate Women every day, at all stages of life… The Maiden, Mother/Woman and Crone and all other steps in our journey through life.

So for this lunar cycle, I invite you to explore the theme of your personal power in a month that celebrates women… what your strengths are, how you manifest them, how your power has shifted and changed throughout your life, your connection to the Divine Feminine within. And what goals you can declare this month. Keep in mind that we are approaching an Equinox later this month which always marks a shift, a change, a new beginning.

There is a First Nations saying that you may have heard:

“At her first bleeding a woman meets her power.
During her bleeding years she practices it.
At menopause she becomes it.”

I have heard some women express that they become “invisible” as they age, and I’ve certainly had that experience on occasion. But many of us become bolder as we age, become activists and are hard not to see!

SOUL QUESTIONS FOR THIS MONTH’S THEME

  • Are you aware of your Power? Your Divine Feminine energies?
  • Do others see your Power in the same way? How would others describe it?
  • Has your Power — or your relationship to it — changed over time?
    • If yes, how? If no, is that a positive thing or something you would like to change?
  • How do you express your Power?
  • How comfortable are you sitting in your Power?
  • How comfortable are you sitting in your Divine Feminine? With your Femininity?

TIPS
This is a good time to work with your Third /Solar Plexus chakra… checking in on it, balancing it, meditating with it, creating affirmations for it using the “rights” of that Chakra:  To Act, To Be Free, To Choose.

The Spirituality of Friendship

As we honour the goddess Brighid and her transition from Crone back to Maiden at Imbolc* (see footer), consider taking some time to meditate or reflect on the women in your life . . .  your friendships with women — the Maidens, the Women, the Crones — and how your friendships have changed throughout the years.

For me, this came home when I read — and loved! —this definition of spirituality:

“the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.”

It would seem to me that friendship is spiritual, rooted in our concern and love for the soul and spirit of those in our own circles.

Soul Questions

Consider the dynamics of your friendships. Create your own questions or ponder on some of these:

  • Do I have friends — or relatives — of all ages?
  • What do my friends learn — or expect — from me? And vice versa?
  • What activities do we share?
  • What do I learn from my friends about life, about love, about self-care. . . about joy, creativity, strength?
  • What do they learn from me?
  • How do I support my friends. . .  and vice versa?
  • What do I expect in or from friendship(s) for them to be successful?
  •  When is it time to end a friendship?
    • That too can be a spiritual process. The friendship may no longer serve us (or vice versa). Perhaps it’s part of our “old story” and no longer in alignment with who we are in our “new story”. We can gently and lovingly let it go, and thank the person and the friendship for the gift and the lesson (or shadow lesson!) it has given us.
  • How do I hold space for friendship in my life?
  • How do I honour, nurture and celebrate my friendships?

The Triple Goddess Within

1330075291_triedinaya-boginyaAnd just as Brighid transforms from Crone to Maiden, so do we. We pass through each of the stages of the Triple Goddess throughout our journey in life; those seeds are within us when we are born.

Not only do we carry the ancestral DNA (and some say the memories) of all the women — and men — who came before us, we carry the full potential and expression of the Maiden-Woman-Crone. Just as the potential and blueprint for the mighty fully grown and majestic oak is within the tiny acorn, so are The Maiden, The Woman and The Crone already nurturing within you at birth. . . . and you can call on their wisdom and energy at any time.

And in your friendships — and in our life — each of those phases come into play. At times we are The Maidens together, full of energy and joy and adventure and play. We are The Woman when we step into creativity and nurturing, and holding sacred space for each other. We are The Crone when we share our wisdom with others, or gently open up others to their own wisdom, to self-healing.

Celebrate the Triple Goddess within you

and within your friends.

Le grá,
(with love, in Irish Gaelic)

Della

Note re Imbolc timing *
I celebrate this special day of the Celtic Wheel of the Year on the “astronomical” date of February 3rd, the precise midpoint between Yule (Winter Solstice) and the Spring Equinox. Many also celebrate on the traditional fixed date of February 1st or 2nd.

Call on The Creatrix in the Full Moon

fullsizeoutput_1801

Wisdom from Seanmháthair Gealach (Grandmother Moon)
Day 16, Full Moon in Cancer at 3:33 AM Pacific Time 🌕
🌿
It’s that time again… A beautiful Full Moon rising in the East. For me, it arrived at 3:30 AM today (Thursday, January 12th), but on the 11th for many of you, in this lovely global community. This energy will be with us for another 2-3 days.

This first Full Moon of the calendar year is in Cancer, such a nurturing mothering sign. And the Full Moon, in the Women’s Cycle of Life, is also aligned with The Mother — goddesses such as Gaia, Demeter, Isis, Hestia and Green Tara — giving us a double dose of the Creatrix energy to heighten our creativity, and to birth and nurture new ideas and new projects. WOW!

And with Imbolc arriving in just a few weeks, we can also look to the energy of Brigid (who we celebrate on Imbolc, February 1 or February 3rd at 22:36 UTC, depending on your traditions) to support us. Brigid tells us: “Don’t back down. Stand up for what you believe is right.”

How does the energy and wisdom of these goddesses manifest in YOUR life?

SOUL QUESTIONS FOR THE FULL MOON
Work with your New Moon card layout and review your progress in the month. Look to the questions for the South (home of Fire, Creativity, Passion… as well as song and poetry), such as:
“What is flourishing?”
“Who am I in wonder and trust?”
“How can I embrace the Creatrix energy in a way that will support me now?”

Or ponder on the mothering aspect of your Self.  We all have both the Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine within us.

Are you nurturing and nourishing your Self, as much as you nurture and nourish others and other things – children, family, job, career, etc.? The Full Moon is about the balancing of waxing and waning, the light and the dark. . . how does this manifest in YOUR life?

RITUALS FOR THE FULL MOON
🌕 Many people choose to release and let go on the Full Moon, and any time in the waning moon is good for that. I’ve shared some simple release ceremonies before in this blog.

🌕 Place your crystals in the moonlight for charging

🌕 Bathe in the moonlight and thank LaLuna for her wisdom

🌕 Spend some time with your altar, adding new elements for the South, and honouring the work of the South. Write a poem, sing a song, place a picture of something inspiring on your altar to be mindful of your goals or desires. And if you don’t have an altar… create one with the Full Moon and Imbolc in mind.

And especially for THIS Full Moon. . . start to plan for Imbolc and for honouring Brigid.

Full Moon Blessings !

MARK YOUR CALENDAR

The Maiden and The Moon: First Quarter in Aries

Wisdom from Seanmháthair Gealach (Grandmother Moon)
Day 8, First Quarter Moon img_8585
Northern Hemisphere 🌓
Southern Hemisphere 🌗

LaLuna reaches the First Quarter in her journey today at 11:46 AM Pacific Time (2:46 PM Eastern Time / 19:46 UTC), in Aries. The Moon should be more visible to us now, rising in the afternoon and early evening, with her face is 50% lit (right side in the Northern Hemisphere, left side in the Southern Hemisphere).

🌓 First Quarter energy 🌗
From the New Moon through to the Full Moon, the brightness and the energy increases each day… just as the days are now growing longer here in the North. These energy shifts may seem subtle at first, but with attention and awareness you will notice it more and can entrain with that energy… embracing the shifts… harnessing the energy itself…. tuning in to its rhythms.

At the First Quarter, we are connected to The Maiden (goddess energy such as Persephone, Artemis, Grainne and others) and her spirit of adventure, freedom, an open mind.

And although I’m not an astrologer, I do look to the sign for further inspiration and insight. The Moon in Aries doubles up on that rising, waxing energy of the Moon AND the adventurous energy of The Maiden. The Aries Moon looks for decisiveness, agility, swiftness, creativity, energy….. WOW! Perfect for the First Quarter which asks the Soul Questions:

“What is Beginning?”
“How will my New Story seed and manifest?”
“What new directions and intentions will I create with my Thoughts and Voice?”

🌓 Monthly Layout Review 🌗
This month, I used the Clear Your Old Story / Create Your New Story layout (join our Wise Woman Bean Gealach Circle to access this layout), and the Brigid’s Grove  Oracle Deck.

The card for the East – associated with the First Quarter – is The Winged Circle: The Rune of Freedom, Liberation, and Revolution. WOW! Again, great synchronicity and alignment with this month’s theme of New Beginnings . . .  and “out with the old, in with the new”!

What does this card mean for YOU?

How might this manifest in YOUR life?

How does this relate to YOUR goals?

For me, this is a powerful affirmation, and also a hint towards my words for the year which are still forming under the surface of the winter soil. So far I’ve heard LOVE and ACCEPTANCE, but they didn’t tell the whole story. I am feeling the need for a word that is even more transformative, more Yang than Yin… and maybe that word is FREEDOM or LIBERATION or REVOLUTION. This year, I feel I am doing things in a very different way,  freeing myself of any old (and no longer useful) ways and creating a whole new paradigm for myself, how I work and how I relate to others.

Pictured is my Moon Bowl altar, with the spread I pulled for the New Moon in late December. And, yes, if you look closely, that is Merlin’s nose peeking out from under the altar! 😻😻 I just can’t keep him away from my sacred tools and altars! He is definitely a magical cat… such a dear familiar!
